It has been 6 weeks since the “Love Island USA” season 8 finale, and just after weeks of the villa’s drama taking over timelines and feeds, the reality TV show is trending again ahead of the highly anticipated season 8 reunion, premiering August 31. Now, as fans of the show dissect the recently released reunion, if you’ve clocked out of the season 8 villa, consider this a little refresher on the season 8 islanders and some of the key moments from this season that are likely to come up during the reunion.
While the season’s winners, Bryce and Trinity (a.k.a. Brinity), are still together, for many of the couples that viewers saw build connections in Fiji, their relationship statuses are complicated. So far, couples like Aniya and Carl, Kayda and Zach, Kenzie and Dylan, KC and Titi, and Melanie and Sincere are reportedly still involved with each other, regardless of whether they have moved on to boyfriend/girlfriend status. Meanwhile, for couples like Parmida and Corbin and Gabriel and Jen, the status of their relationships remains unclear, as some reports have hinted at alleged breakups and possible reunions outside the villa.
“Give me 10” – Melanie vs. Beatrice
During one of the first conflicts of the season, Melanie gave viewers one of many memes as she repeated “give me 10” following a disagreement with Beatrice. The viral moment stemmed from a discussion at the firepit where Beatrice confronted Melanie about being the first to pull the then-new bombshell Corbin for a chat instead of letting Kenzie, who was single at the time, get first dibs. The tense conversation between the two ended with Melanie walking away, repeating the infamous “give me 10” line as she sought space.
Bryce and Zach’s bromance
Throughout the season, as fans watched islanders fall in and out of romantic connections, one connection consistently remained strong throughout the season’s 6 weeks: Bryce ad Zach’s friendship. Building a bond within the first week, the two’s dynamic quickly became a topic of discussion among fans as some found it endearing while others speculated the two may be subconsciously trying to sabotage each other’s relationships under the guise of advice (ex, Zach questioning if Trinity really liked Bryce during episode 8).
KC and the door challenge
In the first challenge of the season, things got a bit awkward for KC. During a compatibility game where islanders were told to stand behind the doors that aligned with their answers, KC made the bold choice to say he preferred plants when contestants were asked if they prefer dogs, cats, or plants. Hoping to stand out for his choice, KC was shocked to open the plant door and find none of the female contestants standing on the other side. Later on in the episode, during the first coupling, KC was met with another empty doorway when none of the female contestants chose to couple up with him, creating a moment that he described as “awkward.” and fans deemed meme-worthy.
“It doesn’t feel good, it’s kind of awkward,” KC said at the time, and as the season progressed, this moment particularly kept resurfacing.
The Sol, Melanie, and Sincere love triangle
When bombshell Sol entered the villa during episode 6, her presence certainly shook up the villa, and some of what fans thought were the strongest couples. While both KC, who was coupled up with Aniya at the time, and Sincere, who was coupled up with Melanie, expressed interest in getting to know Sol, fans saw sparks fly between Sincere and Sol during episode 7. So when America’s vote decided the next recoupling, fans voted Sincere and Sol into a couple, which moved Melanie into a couple with Corbin. In the days that followed, fans watched Sincere continue to have intimate chats with Sol while simultaneously telling Melanie that he missed being coupled up with her. However, the love triangle was short-lived as Sincere chose to couple up with Melanie following the love letter challenge in episode 13. However, drama from the situation trickled on throughout the season as Sol confronted Sincere for being disingenuous, and clips from the love triangle appeared during “Movie Night” towards the end of the season. Beyond the villa, reported tensions rose between Sol and Melanie after Sol claimed that girls in the villa ostracized her during on a livestream.
“I’m Titi”
When KC returned from Casa Amor with Tierra (a.k.a Titi), leaving Aniya single, the environment in the villa became tense as female OG islanders began questioning KC’s decision. However, things exploded when Titi chimed in as Trinity called out KC’s behavior in the villa. During their heated exchange as Trinity emphasized that she was not talking to her and that she didn’t know her, Titi said one line the internet quickly turned into a meme: “You can pipe down, I’m Titi.”
Aniya KC saga
After they were coupled up by default during the first episode, viewers watched KC and Aniya explore their connection. However, as time went on, pain points began to surface in their coupling as bombshells entered the villa and desires to explore new people emerged. Though KC ultimately ended up recoupling with Titi after Casa Amor, in the days leading up to Casa Amor him and Aniya were seen having a number of disagreements about the matter. Among his grievances with their connection, KC was heard comparing Aniya to a grandma when expressing his frustration with the lack of physical affection.
Kenzie’s friendships
While Kenzie quickly became known for her splits throughout the season, her friendships with islanders like Melanie and Jen became topics of conversation as mini love triangles began forming. When Melanie was forced into a couple with Corbin, tension began to bubble between her and Kenzie as the new pairing interfered with Kenzie and Corbin’s budding connection (even though they were not coupled).
Similarly, after Casa Amor when Jen was coupled up with Gal and Kenzie was with Caleb, when Kenzie expressed wanting to explore her connection with Gal, tensions arose between her and Jen.
And depending on how much each of the islanders has indulged in “Love Island USA” content beyond the show and “Love Island: After Sun,” some of the post villa comments made by former islanders about each other during interviews, livestreams and social media comments may come up in the discussions.
Tune into the season 8 reunion on Peacock on August 31.
