Morgan Freeman will be the next “celebrity guest picker” on ESPN’s “College GameDay.” The Oscar-winning actor appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” to announce his upcoming cameo. ESPN’s flagship college football pregame show hosted by McAfee, Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Nick Saban and Kirk Herbstreit will air live this Saturday from Oxford, Miss. ahead of the matchup between between Ole Miss and LSU.
Raised in Mississippi, Freeman is an Ole Miss fan and holds an honorary degree from the university. The star’s presence adds gravity to an already hyped matchup as LSU head coach Lane Kiffin will play against the team he abruptly departed last season. Both teams are 2-0 entering the game.
The 89-year old told McAfee he agreed to appear because of his partner. “I’m tied up with this lady who is a professor at Ole Miss and we’re intimate with what happens there,” said Freeman. “I’m looking forward to being there on Saturday.” The actor is also a regular at the university’s basketball games.
This will be the pregame show’s third-ever appearance in Oxford, the first since 2021. Singer Katy Perry was the selection to rep Ole Miss as celebrity guest picker for that year.
Freeman’s currently stars alongside Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman in the Paramount+ show “Lioness,” which is currently airing its third season. His last movie role was in the “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t,” which came out in 2025.
“College GameDay” airs Saturday September, 19 at 9am ET on ESPN.
